Support and Validation For Us As A Family
As a parent, validation seems to be at the heart of support for my husband and I. Family members stay in denial or feel that it is our parenting style. Even many clinicians that work directly with our child in the field have minimized our issues. The support that is discussed on this page has been essential for our well being as a family. As the reader I am enlightened and encouraged by the idea of becoming a stronger, healthier advocate through self care and dealing with my inner complicated feelings that come with having a child with special needs. I haven't thought deeply enough about the ramifications if I do not make self-care as a priority. I also found the explanation of how deep a communication disorder can cut to be eye-opening. We are so grateful to be working with Suzanne when our child is at such a young age.
